Hello

I'm Cat, an award-winning writer, director, performer and producer from the Isle of Mull now based in Glasgow.

Right now, I'm delighted to be one of the Scottish filmmakers chosen for the inaugural Sean Connery Talent Lab with NFTS Scotland. Over the next year, I'll be working as a director on Lana Pheutan's brilliant script 'Lady Maclean' - a short film that offers audiences a microcosmic glimpse into how class, culture and contemporary land politics converge, turning quaint tartan island stereotypes upside down.

I also founded and produce _ and friends, a new theatre initiative that brings new work to audiences and offers meaningful and resourceful artistic development opportunities and support for artists during these difficult times. Our first live event is at The Old Hairdressers on June 16th, featuring brand new theatre from five exceptional artists based in Scotland.

Most recently, I directed several plays as part of The Traverse's Class Act Ukraine, and was I was appointed Associate Director with international theatre company Vanishing Point in 2022. My original new play “SPIN!” opened to sold out audiences at The Tron Theatre in Glasgow, toured rural Scotland. I'm also a co-founder of new Glasgow performance hub Gaun Yersel’, and co-facilitates and directs monthly text-based workshops for actors.

Cabaret credits include Cat Loud’s Big Night In (Edinburgh Festival Fringe), WAYWARD (The Blueswater, Edinburgh Festival Fringe) and To the End of the World! (Origins Award for Outstanding New Work, VAULT Festival, 2018). Assistant directing credits include A New Life by Andy McGregor (Play Pie Pint) and Every Brilliant Thing by Duncan Macmillan and Jonny Donahoe (An Tobar and Mull Theatre). She co-directed Our Carnal Hearts by Rachel Mars (An Tobar and Mull Theatre & Arch 468) with Rebecca Atkinson-Lord, which toured the UK in 2022. I wrote and directed short films Little Lark (Screen Scotland & GMAC Film’s Little Pictures) and HOWL (Best Micro Short, Phoenix Short Film Festival, 2021), and script supervised on filmmaker Paul Sng’s short Aska (LS Productions).

Elsewhere in film, I'm a BAFTA Connect member, a Short Circuit Convergence screenwriter, a Glasgow Film Festival New Talent mentee and represented Scotland at the CineSud Director's Village filmmakers residency in the Netherlands in 2022.

I'm a graduate of the University of Glasgow and the University of St Andrews and I sit on the board of An Tobar and Mull Theatre.

When I'm not writing and thinking about writing, I am a film photography enthusiast, design social media content, pitch decks and posters for various projects, and I script consult. Have a look at my portfolio and rate card, and get in touch if you'd like me to work on a project with you or take some daft photos.

It's an exciting and terrifying time to be trying to make art, but here we are.

Love and solidarity.

Cat
